Yesterday I went to a meeting day of MERKWAARDIG
the dutchsampler org.
People can sell secondhand books etc.
and you meet other cross-stitchers.
There was a lady selling small cross stitch pieces.
I bought these two.

And there was a show and tell.
These two samplers are made by Corrie
over 1 thread with 1 thread.

This one I finished yesterday.
I bought the patttern and kit,
in Brielle the name of the shop is Quiltgebeuren.

I made it by hand, the size is 15.5x19 inch.

Yesterday evening we had a quiltmeeting.

I finished my basketquilttop.
The patern is from Bonnie Blue Quilts and Block Base.
I made it with my own fabric.
I first want to make it in blue, but the result was dull,
so I put red in it.
One block has 7 baskets( 4 small baskets and 3 the normal size.)

My friend Yael had finished the basket quilt from moda.

First I wish everybody a creative, healthy 2012.

In december I went to the vet with my cat Saartje.
She had a cold and became verry skinny.
she had an echo,
it came out that she had a tumour in her intestines( darmen in dutch)
she had her operation the 14th.
You cannot believe, but the next day she was fine, if nothing happened.
they checked the tumor it is cancer.
I don't want any chemo, so I hope the best and
that she will be fine for a while.

It shows a picture of this baby quilt made by SONIA DELAUNAY
in 1911 for her son charles.
It is in Paris in Centre Pompidou.

Today I want to share with you one of the most beautiful quilts I have in my collection of antique quilts:

I bought it in Houston last year.
I fell in love with the crib quilt and then there was a big quilt with the same patern it was impossible to seperate the quilts.

Thirty-six miniature quilt blocks,
separated by a blue cross and surrounded on

well-worn quilt from the same area,

Quilt Museum York.

In York we visited the museum of the British Quilters Guild
They gave us the oppertunity to look in their depot.
What I saw there was so special, that I want to show you all.
This jacket is made about 1947 just after World War 2
In England and in the Netherlands you could not buy textile,
their was shortage of everything,
it was what we called on the bill.
A mother made this from old clothes for her daughter.

Today is the great day for the netherlands.
We are in the final of the worldcup football(soccer)
I live close by the big square Museumplein , they think that there are coming about 100.000 people this evening.
Last night a campingbus from italie was parked near my house,
today we saw that they have a business in all kind of orange things and the dutch flag.

I went to the square 3 hours before the match.

We spend 17 days on all kind of textiles, mostley quilts.
We started In Manchester than Wales, Bath, London, Durham, York and again Manchester.

It was great, what a beautiful quilts.

You can buy the APP in the Itunes store and you can download it on your Iphone.
So when You cannot go and have an Iphone, you can see some quilts.

In Leiden we had the Textiel Festival last week,

There were Elephants all over the city.
A lot of artist made there own elephant

Last week the output was 872.500 euro
it is for the asian Elephant.

I have a funny story.
Sometimes I google my name,
and last year I saw a report of a schoolmeeting in Wijhe,
my birthplace.
They had a new child at the school by the name of Joes Meester.
The name Joes is not a common.
I phoned some people with family name Meester in Wijhe,
and I spoke with the father of this Joes.
He is a boy 5 years old, and he lives in the same street,
I lived from my birth till I was 13 years,
he on number 54, I at 45.
Years ago in Amsterdam, there was a meaningless homicide
the victim’s name was Joes,
the little boy is named after this victim.
His grand father owned a forge at the building,
where my great- grandfather had his meat factory.
Last Sunday my mother and I visited Joes and his family,
We are not related, we only share the same last name.
Isn’t it a curious story?

on the way to the quiltshops we saw this beautiful colours every where.
this is a one room schoolhouse.

by us are they brown.

At the show and tell I showed my little baskets and this was the inspiration for other quilters.

The border of this quilt from Susan McCord gave me the idea for my design.

In the beginning of the month,
I went with my friend Isabeau and Lucy to Michigan to join
the Gwen Marston Retreat in Elk Rapids.
We stayed together with Bonnie Hunter is a Holiday house.
It was a great experience I have a lot of designs in my head,
we met a lot of nice people, made a lot of new friends.

At the retreat we met Mary Elizabeth Kinch and Biz Storms they wrote
the book Small blocks, Stunning quilts
And I was with my friend Bonnie Hunter who wrote
the book Scaps and Shirttails.

my little lion

I have two cats,sisters.
They both are britisch shorthair tabby cats, one grey and one brown.

Saartje is the grey one

Pluisje is the brown tabby,
she is a breed variation, has long hair ,
she hates the comb, and therefore. she gets a lot of knots.
so I take her to the vet each year to be shaved,
unfortunately she has to be under anaesthetic.

This is how she normaly is

And this how she is now, the vet keeps a plume at the end of her tail, otherwise she doesn't regornises her own tail.

She looks like a cartooncat now,she is so tiny .
But I think she is happy without all that hair.

The dealer was from Houston.
I fell in love immediate.
What I like so much is the bright cheddar triangles,

It is from ca 1880.
Good condition.

I was on a short holiday in England Cumbria ( the Lake District) With a friend , We are friends for more than 40 years.
We stayed in a Bed and Breakfast near Windermere.
It is a beautiful part of the UK

This is the info and pictures of the antique dutch quilt
my famely owns.
The quilt is dated about 1610
the center is an antique "sits" or "palempore"
imported by the VOC( east india company)
from INDIA at the end of the 16th century.

the size is 183x170 cm (72x67inch)
the condition is not so good anymore, but still it is beautiful.

QUILTMANIA

In issue number 71 of may/june,
you can see an artikel about my quilting and embroidery
in combination with the interior of my appartment in Amsterdam
I like it very much, very nice pictures.
I think it will be at shops the coming weeks.

today I want to show you some pictures I made in Paducah.

I was so lucky to meet Anne Oliver, she is very famous she won, (in the past) in Paducah best of show and also in Houston,
She was the one who introduced Freezer paper in the quilting world.
When I visited the USA for the first time in 1991 she took me on a quiltshopping- and sightseeing tour in Washington DC
It was nice to see here back after all that years.

We had diner with our friends Judy and Kathy.
it was Judy's birthday , so she was the Queen

antique quilt Isabeau and I liked very much, we first saw him in Houston,
too expensive to buy, but very beautiful.
One day i am sure that Isabeau will make one like this.

Tomorrow I am leaving with my friend Isabeau for Paducah
First we spend a few days in Nashville,
go to the grandold opry
and do some shopping at the quiltshops
near Nashville and cope with the jetlag.

After that we go with Country Heritage tours to Paducah.
We like to go on the tour,because it is easy,
it is so much trouble to find a hotelroom,etc.
I think it will be my 7th time for Paducah,
we will meet old friends , go to Hancock ( a few times) the Rotary show
and a lot more.

Now I have my suitcase packed and my cat Saartje want to go with us.

I am in baskets, a lot of people are doing the same,
Mine is a patern from Block Base, the block is 9 cm.
All the baskets are in blue.
In a few weeks I will show you how I want to do the setting of the blocks.

Ans moved to her new house.
It is located on IJburg a hole new part of Amsterdam.
It is a kind of island, they created new land in the water.

We want to make a little quilt for the new house.
Isabeau made the houses, I did the sashings and Ellen the quilting.

in the shop of the Calico mMuseum in ahmedabad
now I was back it was not allowed to take pictures again.
So we draw it on paper.
then we came back in our hotel and there was the same floor.

This is a picture of a friendship sampler I have joined the past 1 1/2 year
with 7 people we worked on each others sampler.
My choise was a sampler with trees
I have to make a few more trees and the sampler will be finished

together with a friend we both love textile
