Today I want to share with you one of the most beautiful quilts I have in my collection of antique quilts:
I bought it in Houston last year.
I fell in love with the crib quilt and then there was a big quilt with the same patern it was impossible to seperate the quilts.

the big quilt
This Book had a picture and info about the quilt.
Crib Quilts and other small wonders by Thos.K.Woodard & Blanche Greenstein
43 Sunburst
c. 1885 Lehigh County Pennsylvania 39”x 42”.
Thirty-six miniature quilt blocks,
separated by a blue cross and surrounded on
three sides by rows of variable star blocks and
on the fourth side with a birds in air variation,
form the basis for the design.
A bit crudely pieced and quilted,
but imaginative, this is a mate to an almostidentical,
well-worn quilt from the same area,
probably made by the same maker
for two siblings.
Collection of Richard and Rosemarie Machmer,
Now they both are mine.
I can see why you treasure the antique quilt so well. I like the sunburst design blocks used in the quilt.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful. The star block, it is pieced then appliqued to the background, or is every piece appliqued?
